AR00 – Introduction – Alias
This episode is our introduction to the series. We’ll discuss what drew us to the series for the first time, the cast and what impact the show has had on us as individuals and on the TV culture. Next week we will start an episode-by-episode watching of the series and we’d love to have you join us on the long journey! We’ll include details at the end of the show for how you can get in touch with us to send in feedback or to volunteer as a guest!
Segment 1: Let’s start by sharing what drew us to the series for the first time…
Segment 2: Let’s now talk about the show itself. The show aired from 2001-2006 on ABC and launched the careers of many young Hollywood stars. It was created by JJ Abrams, whose only TV credit before this was Felicity (which is also being reviewed on this network!). Abrams cast Jennifer Garner on the show (where she appeared as Hannah in the first season) and at some point wondered “what if Felicity was a spy?” And so the idea was born. Of course, today everyone knows who JJ Abrams is. He’s gone on to produce several TV series, including Lost, Fringe and Person of Interest, just to name a few and has produced many films including the Star Trek reboot trilogy and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, just to name a few.
The cast is really fantastic, and 15 years ago when the show premiered many of them were not well known. Several have since gone on to other roles.
Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow
Ron Rifkin as Arvin Sloane
Michael Vartan as Michael Vaughn
Bradley Cooper as Will Tippin
Merrin Dungey as Francie Calfo
Carl Lumbly as Marcus Dixon
Kevin Weisman as Marshall Flinkman
Victor Garber as Jack Bristow
Greg Grunberg as Eric Weiss
Other notable recurring characters: Terry O’Quinn, David Anders, Sarah Shahi (and many more as the show continues. We’ll note them as the episodes go)
Segment 3: Finally, let’s talk about the lasting effect the show has had on us and on the tv culture.

We hope that you will watch along with us. In the US, Alias is available on DVD, Hulu and the ABC mobile app on iOs or Android. It is unfortunately no longer available on Netflix streaming.
For our episode next week, we will review the pilot episode, Truth Be Told, which first aired on September 30, 2001.
